Estonia Klavierfabrik

The ESTONIA piano history begins with Ernst Hiis, a piano technician who prepared instruments for Sergei Rachmaninoff. In 1893 Hiis established his own workshop as a maker of fine pianos. Later in his career, this master craftsman helped establish our current Factory premises near the heart of the beautiful medieval city of Tallinn.

At the ESTONIA Piano Factory, we are dedicated to preserving and innovating on the unique Baltic and Nordic traditions of fine piano craftsmanship. The ESTONIA piano bears the name of a country where singing is all but the national religion, making this songful instrument both a revered national treasure and a symbol of freedom.

Praised for its characteristic songfulness, the ESTONIA piano tone balances warmth and clarity. This signature singing sound is achieved by the custom acoustic design of our piano models, which include a wide rim geometry, duplex scales, and light, responsive touch. Each piano’s superb resonance and stability is the result of months of handcrafting, using only the finest European materials.

A small team of forty craftsmen and women produce around 120 instruments per year. The ESTONIA Piano Factory produces five grand piano models: 168cm, 190cm, 210cm, 225cm, and 274cm (concert grand). All models feature exquisite woodwork, with rims lined with local Baltic Birch. Our special edition models also feature Macassar Ebony, Bubinga, and Mahogony finishes.

The ESTONIA Piano Factory is owned and managed by Estonian concert pianist Dr. Indrek Laul. All pianos are personally inspected and played by one of the Laul family pianists.
